The Club is lucky to have an experienced team of coaches and assistants to run internal competition, as well as qualified referees who run one day LTA junior tournaments throughout the year and the week long Woking Open every summer (Matt Trevail, Jonny Thomson, Nick Nugent and Shirley Jones). After learning the basics of Tennis, playing a competition can be a daunting first experience at all ages, so Woking LTCC tries to offer plenty of fun competitions to give juniors confidence playing against others they know in an enjoyable environment, before potentially moving up to play in higher grade events.
This is a local, fun, team competition aimed at recreational standard players who have have limited or no experience playing in external competitions. Players play in small teams in a mixture of singles and doubles matches against others of a similar age/level over 2-3hrs. Members, as well as teams from local Clubs are all welcome to join in and events are held on Sunday during term time (typically 6-8yrs Red, 8-10yrs Orange and 10-14yrs Yellow competitions). Junior Ratings Matches are FREE for all junior tennis Members (10yrs+) and enable juniors to play a match against any other junior of the same rating at a mutually convenient time. Results can be submitted to the LTA by any of the coaches and players have to achieve a certain number of wins each season to improve their rating. For full details on ratings, click here. This annual event for all age groups at the Club (inc. Vets) runs from April – July, with consolations events allowing everyone to enjoy plenty of matches, whatever their level. All Members are encouraged to take part and matches are played at mutually convenient times.
This national event gives the chance for the winner of our events compete at the County Finals and possibly get through to the Nationals Finals at Wimbledon! This year there is two events; Players rated 7.1 and above can compete in the Club event to then qualify for the County Finals and players rated 6.2 and below go straight to regional event (enter on the LTA website).
This is a regional level tournament run over one week in the summer holidays, with all age groups from U8 up to Men’s. The event over 80 years old and regularly attracts over 300 players, with many top level national juniors competing for the coveted titles.
This tournament started very successfully in 2013. This event has singles and doubles events from 8U-Adult and runs over the May half-term.
These are one day or half-day local/County level tournaments that any player of the suitable age group can enter (acceptance list determined by highest rating and ranking). The Club aims to run at least one tournament of each age group (U8-Adult) every term to allow Members the chance to compete against players from other Clubs and gain ranking points, as well as ratings wins.
Teams from various local Primary schools bring teams from year 3 and 4 to play in this fun competition, with a series of coaching sessions run in the lead up to the event.
