New Club Tennis Captains for 2022

The Club is very pleased to formally announce new Club Captains for each of the team tennis sections for 2022. Captains will liaise with the Director of Tennis, Tennis Chairman and Teams Coach, as well as sitting on the Tennis Committee to represent the many teams competing for the Club in Winter and Summer leagues. Captains welcome any feedback regarding teams, so please get touch in touch via the office!

Ladies Captain - Sam Simmons

After re-joining the Club relatively recently, Sam's been a regular at Ladies team practise as well as representing the B team in the local league; "I started playing at age 10 at School, I learned from books about BJ King etc and by using the wall at home (much to my mothers annoyance) and a ball on a string! Probably because my Mum couldn't stand the constant thudding of the ball on the wall, I had lessons with a coach at their house, and went on to be her Saturday girl hitting with her customers for £10 (she had a hip operation). I joined WLTCC at 12 but then was a naughty teen and fell out of love with Tennis!! The passion was re-ignited many years later when my son showed an interest and I started playing with another parent and their son just to get them out - I remember I had to go and buy a new racket as my old Slazenger Challenge was warped! Anyway I very quickly fell in love with the sport again, booked myself a week away with my son at La Manga playing as much as I could and then came back and joined David Lloyd - that was 16 years ago and I've played in Chaucer, Woking League, Aegon team etc for them. I joined WLTCC again in 2021 as I wanted to play for a 'proper' tennis club and absolutely love it. In the last 2 years I've had some injuries but am gradually getting stronger and playing more often. I love getting others involved and playing with lots of different people which WLTCC has facilitated. - I normally say - ' Yeah I'll play - just tell me where, when and with who 🙂".

Men's Captain - Lewis Hunnisett

After moving locally after University Lewis joined the Club in 2020, quickly rising through the Men's team ranks and now Captains the National League A team; "I started playing tennis aged 4 at what was then Esporta Croydon. Joined the Surrey ranks aged 7, and started playing more regional/national tournaments at this point. Played county cup for Surrey at U10s and U12s level and played OUATT at Moratagolou in Paris aged 9. Was part of the National Talent ID program for 3 years, at which point I moved to train at the TeamBath MCTA Academy based at the University of Bath. I played there for 8 years, playing in Tennis Europe’s and ITF level events as well as National Club League for them. I switched counties to Wiltshire and played county cup at all subsequent age groups, including men’s. I was consistently ranked inside the top 50 players for my age group during these years. After deciding against US college, I went to Warwick University and was captain of the 1st team there for a year whilst playing in BUCS Division 1. Since graduating, I have played for Woking in Surrey Leagues and for Beechwood in the National League and will be committing to playing for Woking in all league formats from this year onward."

Mixed Captains - Alex Zervos

Currently Woking League Mixed B team Captain, playing regular Singles Box League matches and Wednesday evening Men's team practise; "I Re-joined the club in 2013, played a lot as boy in own back yard, barely none as a young man and picked up a racquet again as a 'mature boy' in the last 10 years. Loving it again!"

Fixture Secretary - Martine Lowe

The team captains are also assisted by Martine Lowe who takes charge of all the adult team fixtures!
