Adult Team Tennis 2018-19 Celebration

Main Image

On Friday 18th October, players from across the 26 Adult teams at the Club got together for the annual Curry night to celebrate another very successful year. Numerous teams gained promotion (see below!) and only 2 teams suffered relegation. There's certainly going to be some tough matches ahead for everyone and we look forward to hearing all about it next year.

Woking League
Men's A (Mark Rohde) and B (Mark Eaden) have been battling hard in division 1 as always, with the teams finishing 3rd and 5th respectively last Winter, but then getting back to winning ways and finishing 1st and 4th in the Summer league. The Men's C team led by Ravi does seem to have at last found some more competitive matches after dominating the lower division for the last few years, finishing a very respectable mid table 4th in division 2 and will hope to stay there.
After unfortunately going down the previous year, Jo Male's Ladies A team bounced straight back to win all 6 matches last winter and get back up to Division 1. This form continued, with the team rising up to 3rd in the recent summer league, there best result in recent years. Jenny Way's B team and Sam Mcpherson's C team managed to hold their place in Division 2 and Division 3/4 respectively in both Winter and Summer leagues.
Dave Walker’s Mixed A team somehow came runners-up in Division 1 for a 3rd season in a row… yet to find a way to topple Coopers Hill (even finishing on level points with them last winter, but losing on set average!). Despite a few changes of Captaincy the mixed B team has done well to finish runners-up in both Winter (Division 4) and Summer (Division 3) and gain promotion with Richard Shepheard (Winter) and Jerry Kearns (Summer) taking charge. Alexander Zervos has now taken over for the winter

Surrey League
Ethan Gortler's Men's A team followed Summer promotion with a Winter promotion to a strong Division 3 which is where they managed to stay, finishing 4th this summer. Ed Payne's B team were as consistent as ever, remaining in Division 7 last winter and going back down to division 7 in the Summer league. In the Seniors’ competition Mike Cubbitt's O55's team had a great run in last winter’s knockout competition, reaching the semi-finals, but unfortunately following last year’s promotion, they found things tough in Surrey Div 1. Despite finishing joint 5th, were narrowly relegated on rubbers lost. They have also started in the winter league for the first time which is great to see.
Cyndy Peterson's Ladies team followed in the footsteps of the Woking league team, winning Division 8 last winter, followed by Division 7 this summer to hopefully find some stronger opposition in the higher leagues. In the Mid-week leagues, Hazel Rohde's ladies finished a fantastic runners-up in Division 1, with Donna's Destroyers finishing runners-up Division 9 last winter, followed by winning Division 10 Summer league. They'll also be looking to get more of a challenge over the next year!

Surrey Team Tennis
In arguably Surrey's toughest league, Mike Paling’s Men's A team survived to finish joint second in the end and retain their spot for next year. Marcus Lindstrup and the B team finished 3rd in Division 3 to also stay unchanged, however despite being unable to play himself, Clive Abel's C team won Division 6 to get promoted. Holly Davies' ladies also had a very successful season to finish joint top of Division 3 and gain promotion.

Chaucer League
In the Summer Chaucer league Adam Noble's Men's team couldn't quite match last year’s victory, finishing a still respectable 3rd in the end. This was matched by Jo Bamforth's Ladies weekend team, with Hazel's mid-week team finishing mid table and Debbie Volan's Mixed team winning Division 3. The Winter Mixed knockout competition was dominated by the 3 Woking teams for a 3rd year in a row, with team Rohde coming out on top after a very close final once again against Anna's young apprentice coaches!

A Big thanks to all the team captains for all their efforts and best of luck for the upcoming season. If anyone has any suggestions for improvements we can make as a Club for our teams in particular, then please just us an email.
