The Club are very pleased to announce that Mark Wisdom (Head of Performance and Surrey 12U Captain) is now a fully qualified LTA Level 5 Master Performance Coach after passing the final part of the course recently. After 20 months of intense studying, written / video assignments, presentations and on court assessments under the watchful eye of Louis Cayer, one of the most well renowned coaches in the world (coaching no fewer than 6 world no.1's!). Being selected as one of only a handful of coaches in the UK to take part in the course was achievement enough, but to Mark was extremely happy to complete his certification;
"The course proved to be one of the the most challenging experiences of my life. It pushed me a long way out of my comfort zone but the course I believe is one of the best in the world with world class tutors delivering, world class knowledge".
The course was a huge learning experience for Mark who has already successfully developed a number of young players all the way up to National and International level using many of the new skills learnt. The Master Performance course was designed to develop help performance coaches “bridge the gaps” to allow players to compete at the highest national and international levels whilst deeply influencing their performance on a day to day basis with their players. A number of parts of the course stood out for Mark to change the way he works with players;
"Using the structure of the “integrated” approach, which is using all of the 4 performance factors (tactical, technical, physical and mental) helped me look for other factors other than that of “model technique” for solutions to problems/issues my players have. It allows me to teach the player tennis and not tennis to the player!".
Mark hopes to now use his experiences to continue developing players from a young age in the Woking Academy, as well as mentoring up and coming performance coaches working at the Club and in the local area. Any players / Coaches interested in finding out more about performance tennis, are very welcome to contact Mark - firstname.lastname@example.org.
