16U Girls Win First AEGON Match of 2016

Main Image

As always with 16U the first challenge is finding a date that 8 girls in the middle of GCSE's, school exams and Duke of Edinburgh weekends could all make, no mean feat! Many many emails later we managed to find one that all could do and the girls looked forward to their first 16u Aegon match of the year. Unfortunately for South Croydon their top player couldn’t make it and so from a ratings perspective with a 4.2, 5.2, 6.1 and 7.1 on Woking’s side vs 5.2, 7.1, 8.1 and 8.2 for Croydon on paper we were by far the stronger side but as we all know ratings do not tell the whole story and the other side were stronger than their ratings suggested. In spite of that our girls played very well on a beautiful summer’s day at Woking, Grace playing no 1 managed to take her mind off her birthday celebrations to win easily 6-2 6-1 against a girl who seemed to return everything. Isabelle M at 2 struggled with a painful foot and unfortunately just lost in the 3rd. Isobel B at 3 left her poor opponent wondering what had just happened to her and didn’t even concede a game, Alice B also had a great game winning easily at 6-1 6-0 .

The doubles saw some lovely tennis with some great rallies and both pairs winning in straight sets giving Woking a 10-2 victory.

Well done girls.
