Match report WLTCC Ladies AEGON vs David Lloyd Epsom

In the excitement over the start of the new Aegon season 2016, it would be foolish to forget the girls especially in the light of a convincing and utterly dominant victory by the inaugural WLTCC Ladies Aegon team over David Lloyd Epsom on Sunday 10th April.

So whilst the men were still deciding what to wear for their high profile first match, the ladies stepped out on to the courts at DL Epsom to embark on their singles matches. It was the usual Aegon weather of being rather less then ideal, with a harsh wind whipping across the courts despite the glorious sunshine.

Woking fielded a youthful team with Sofie Watkins playing at #1. Sofie dug in and bided her time with the ball persistently returning. However, she held her nerve, hit some fantastic winning shots and was victorious; 6-3, 6-2.

Issy Betts, player #2 and the youngest in the team, similarly played a patient game, and waited for her opponent to make the mistake. She had a slight upset after taking a tumble towards the end of the 2nd set which meant she lost some ground, but finally closed the match out 6-1, 7-5.

Anna at #3, hated the astroturf surface and was utterly convincing in dispatching her poor opponent in around 30 minutes (who must've wondered what happened!). The score was 6-0, 6-0.

Jo Bamforth, player #4, was banished to a noisy court at the back of the car park sadly and had a little bit more of a battle on her hands, not helped by the windy conditions. She eventually prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(10-6).

The girls then started on their doubles matches comfortable in the knowledge that come what may, they already had the win in the bag for Woking. Both pairings romped through their matches in a similar time with Anna & Sofie winning 6-4, 6-3 and Jo & Issy winning 6-2, 7-5.

With a final score of 6-0 to Woking Ladies, the girls then rushed back to WLTCC to support the men's team and to share the good news of their first win. Good luck to the team for the next match!
