WLTCC had a strong showing at the recent two day LTA grade 2 national level 10U event held at Bath University. Two Woking juniors Freddie Plummer and Lotty Forsyth were accepted into the 24 player boys and girls draws respectively. This was matching and bettering the showing by many performance accredited centres from around the country!
Unfortunately for Freddie, he picked up an injury at the end of the day one meaning he had to withdraw from the following days play. He put up a very brave fight throughout the Saturday's matches unfortunately losing two very close matches in a third set tie-break. He stuck to the task in hand and fought until the very last ball had been struck. Great effort Freddie!
Lotty playing in her first Grade 2 level event showed she was not overawed but the competition, winning one match comfortably and losing a very tight match in a third set tie-break to the seeded player in her round robin box. This meant she qualified to the main draw round of 16 where she played a very strong girl who already had a rating of 8.2. Lotty just couldn't get the better of her and her opponent went on to finish 3rd overall in the tournament.
The second days play was held indoors on a swelteringly hot day, meaning fatigue played a huge part in the level of play for all of the kids where they all had to play a further 3 matches. In the first two matches Lotty just couldn't find the form from the previous day. She tried very hard on every point and have all she had which was really great to see. She then went on to dust herself off and finish strongly with a convincing 4-2 4-1 in the 5th to 8th consolation draw final.
Our players showed they can keep up with the best players in the country and set the standards for all our aspiring performance juniors. Well done and keep up the hard work guys!!
