Senior Section - Thursdays 7:30pm

We are a friendly, relaxed Chess Club where new Members of all standards are always welcome. We are keen to encourage junior players and meet every Thursday evening from 7.30pm onwards.
The Club holds two graded competitions each year: one is a Swiss tournament, the other a standard play all-play-all. A graded rapid-play All-Play-All is planned for the near future.
We are keen to promote competitive chess. We play inter-club competitions and also have teams competing in the (Surrey) Border League.
Refreshments and food are available from the bar. If you are thinking about joining – why not try a free session? Just contact us and we would be delighted to welcome you.

Junior Section - Thursdays 6:45pm

Junior players of all abilities are welcome to join the Junior section of our Chess Club: age is no barrier. If a junior can't play - we will teach them!
A session may start with a puzzle or some class coaching, covering piece moves, tactics and strategy. Afterwards, Members play each other in 'friendlies' which provide the opportunity for one-to-one coaching. Willing players also participate in inter-club tournaments, either for individual events or team events, giving them the opportunity to experience competitive chess.
The Junior Section meets during school terms and sessions start at 6:45pm on Thursday evenings, lasting for one hour. Some juniors of suitable standard stay on to participate in the senior chess Club which follows. In fact a few of our Juniors now play in our senior squads competing against other Clubs in Border League matches.
One of our senior Members, Vladimir Bovtramovics has been giving private coaching to two juniors - and the results have been startling.
Payment is for one term in advance and works out at £2.50 per hour-long session (less for existing junior Members of the Tennis Club).
