Tournament Information

Trophies

Winners of trophies are responsible for returning their trophies to Steve Twilley a month prior to the section AGM, and he will then arrange the engraving on their behalf.

Trophies are insured on the club's insurance policy, and do not need special insurance action on the part of the holders.

Inter-club Competitions

The club competes in several inter-club competitions, including Federation and CA events for both association and golf croquet. The club pays for entry into the competition, but players invited to take part in these competitions are expected to cover their own expenses, such as lunch and travel. Depending on the competition, where another club has been invited to Woking a free lunch may be provided for the visitors. The competition organiser should check with the section Chairman if they feel this is appropriate, and if agreed should ensure that anyone involved in catering are warned, and if possible arrange to provide an appropriate meal - generally we expect to do better than just sandwiches, but this will depend on circumstance. The competition organiser may need to pay for the meals and reclaim from the section treasurer.

Friendly matches may sometimes be arranged with another club. As our lawn space is generally at a premium, any such matches to be played at the club should be agreed with the section Chairman beforehand.

Clothing

Flat soled shoes MUST be worn on the lawns at all times. Trainers and sandals with flat soles are acceptable. Walking sticks or other supports may NOT be used on the lawns unless the end(s) in contact with the lawn are a minimum 3" in diameter.

Predominantly white clothing should be worn for all tournaments, competitions and club sessions. In case of bad weather, coloured rain-wear may be worn, although white is preferable.  The white clothing rule is however relaxed for any competitions held outside of the normal playing season, to allow warm clothing to be worn.

Tournament Types

Open Tournaments

The club hosts a number of tournaments open to any players (you must be a member of the Croquet Association if this is not your first tournament). For these tournaments, we use our usual two lawns, and also take over two tennis lawns to provide four lawns in all. Food and drink will be available in the clubhouse. Please send entries to our tournament secretary Alan Edwards.

Internal Competitions

In addition to the open tournaments, we hold a number of competitions at set times through the season. These are generally open to club members only, although other guests may be invited if we are short on numbers. Details are in the croquet calendar.

Season-long Competitions

These competitions run throughout the season, with the players involved in each match responsible for arranging its completion before the set deadline. There are plenty of different levels and types of competition available, to suit all members.
